Frank Barkow discusses recent design research and building projects by Barkow Leibinger. Barkow, a former AA Intermediate Unit Master who has also taught at Harvard GSD, founded Barkow Leibinger Architekten with Regine Leibinger in 1993. The scope of the practices work spans from cultural to industrial projects. Their focus involves masterplanning and building representational and functional buildings for production, logistical and office spaces. The firms approach is formed by the interaction of practice, research and teaching. Their interdisciplinary, discursive attitude allows their work to expand and respond to advancing knowledge. Recent designs include a Laser Machine Tool Factory in Ditzingen, Germany and the TRUETEC Office Building in Seoul. Recent research projects include reviolving lasercutting; CNC-cut translucent concrete formwork; and pre-cast concrete and ceramic elements. The work of the office has been published worldwide.
