The world as we knew it just a few months ago has radically changed. This crisis, as all the ones that precede it, demands we reimagine the world anew. Breaking with inherited histories, legacies and traditions, schools of architecture are forced to identify a new set of priorities, forms of action and expertise.
Throughout history, architecture has articulated society’s values and visions for the future. The architecture of educational spaces reveals not only the technological and ideological thinking of the time but also the priorities in methods of learning.
This open call asks our global community to question the priorities for architectural education and how these can be translated to spatial ideas. Submit your designs and ideas for what spaces of learning in the near and far future can be by posting your entry on your Instagram feed with a caption explaining your idea by 3 July. Ensure to tag @aaschool and use #SpacesThatTeach. Selected submissions will be curated and re-posted on the AA Instagram account. Selected participants will also be invited for a panel discussion. You can also email your submission to events@aaschool.ac.uk and if your image is selected, we'll post it on our Instagram account.
For inspiration on the future of architectural education, watch the Urgent Futures symposium held on Friday 29 May, in which individuals teaching at the Architectural Association propose new referents for the social, political, technological and material agency that architects have in affecting the designed environment.
Deadline: 3 July
