Francesca Hughes introduces the lecture series Reconstructing Her Practice. Elizabeth Diller concentrates on Bad Press, a project which rethinks systems of domestic order through dissident housework. Engaging readings of inscription and stopping short of prescription, the practice of Diller + Scofidio is dedicated to an architecture of description. The work aims to expose architectures complicity with other institutions in the production and sustenance of conventions - cultural codes typically rendered invisible by their familiarity. Though description is commonly understood to be recapitulation, passive and uncritical, here it is used aggressively. By foregrounding culturally-encoded relations between programmes, sites, and bodies, the projects unavoidably disrupt those relations.
