With the closing of the exhibition In Pursuit of Images, the evening will reflect on the potential for exhibitions and artistic practices to construct and engage different forms of communities. The conversation will draw from Sepake’s curatorial interest in the dialogic relation between art works and the multiplicities of perspectives that an audience can bring with them. The testimonial, the conversational, the mythic, the scandalous, the poetic, the observational and the sacred, the event will be a constellation of thoughts and reflections on the forums and social engagements that are produced within and through art practice.
Sepake Angiama is the artistic director of Iniva. Previously she worked as co-curator of the Chicago Architecture Biennial (2019) and as Head of Education for Documenta 14 where she initiated Under the Mango Tree: Sites of Learning in cooperation with ifa (Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen), a project that gathers artist-led social spaces, libraries, and schools interested in unfolding discourses around decolonising education practices. Sepake has also been Head of Education at Manifesta 10 (St Petersburg), Curator of Public Programmes at Turner Contemporary, Margate and a BAK Fellow in Utrecht.
