Do Ho Suh will give the 2025 Mark Cousins Annual Lecture.
London-based artist Do Ho Suh will deliver a talk about his creative practice spanning a wide range of media including drawings, film and sculptural works. Through a transnational lens, Suh's work explores themes of memory, belonging, movement, physical and metaphorical spaces of home.
Do Ho Suh (b. 1962, Seoul, Korea; lives and works in London) works across various media, creating drawings, film and sculptural works that confront questions of home, physical space, movement, memory, individuality and collectivity. Suh is best known for his fabric sculptures that reconstruct to scale his former homes in Korea, Rhode Island, Berlin, London and New York. Suh is interested in the malleability of space in both its physical and metaphorical forms, and examines how the body relates to, inhabits and interacts with that space.
Please note that this lecture will be ticketed with tickets released for the AA School Community and Members at 6pm on Friday 17 October. It will have restricted capacity with priority given to current AA students and staff as well as fully registered AA Members.
To commemorate the legacy of Mark Cousins’ teaching at the AA, the Mark Cousins Annual Lecture was established in 2022. This annual event is an opportunity to invite speakers whose work bears a kindred approach to Mark’s thinking about space, architecture, theory or culture, giving voice to the next generation and bringing Mark’s teaching to audiences old and new. An ongoing fundraising campaign aims to ensure that this annual event remains a highlight in the AA public programme for the next three decades. To learn more about the late Mark Cousins, one of the AA’s most influential architectural educators and critics, please visit the Mark Cousins Lecture Archive – a unique set of over 250 lecture recordings spanning his career available to watch online here. There is also a book containing an edited selection of the lectures - Mark Cousins: Friday Lectures (ed. Parveen Adams) 2022.
