'The history of the drawn image can be recast with the advent of the digital. In addition, the move from the line to spline has created another way of writing the history of lines within architecture, a possibility that is also evident in the move from a Cartesian geometry to a NURB-based one. Furthermore, the relationship between the drawing and the architectural model has acquired a different status giben the possibility of moving between material and digital models.' Andrew Benjamin looks at what happens to the tradition of architectural drawing in the light of the emergence of the diagram. Benjamin is Professor of Critical Theory in Architecture and Design and Associate Dean (Research) in the Faculty of Design, Architecture and Building at the University of Technology, Sydney.
