The Theatre of Immanence is a project with a multidisciplinary character; an interchange between ideas, theories, and communications of artists, architects and a cultural theorist. This Theatre is about a continuous world of emerging realities. The interplay between individual artists work and The Thing reflects a worlds-in-worlds condition, where times, lives and cultures overlap. Yet the Theatre is not a cultural representation: what it does is produce concepts, reflections, and expressions. Ben van Berkel studied architecture at the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and at the AA. In 1988 he and Caroline Bos set up Van Berkel & Bos Architectuurbureau in Amsterdam. In 1998 they established UNStudio (United Net) which presents itself as a network of specialists in architecture, urban development and infrastructure. Current projects include the restructuring of the station area of Arnhem, a shopping mall renovation in Kaohsiung, a masterplan for Basauri, a music theatre for Graz and the design and restructuring of the Harbor Ponte Parodi in Genoa. Ben van Berkel is Professor of Conceptual Design at the Staedelschule in Frankfurt am Main. Central to his teaching is the inclusive approach of architectural works integrating virtual and material organization and engineering constructions.
