Please join us for a discussion in support of relief efforts to help those affected by the recent earthquake.
South-eastern Turkey and northern Syria were recently struck by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake, followed by a second 7.7 magnitude earthquake less than 12 hours later. The aftermath of these events has revealed the problematic nature of the infrastructure and architecture in these zones. The question of how we build with the behaviour of land in mind, and not against it, has once again come to the fore. The event will offer the opportunity to think about our capacity as architects, students of architecture and spatial practitioners to intervene in tragic circumstances such as these in a discussion moderated by Turkish AA students.
An introduction will be given by Kerem Arpaciogullari and Mina Gursel Tabanlioglu.
Ciaran Malik will then speak about the structural implications of building in earthquake zones, followed by a further discussion that is open to all and moderated by Turkish Students of the AA
Please consider donating when registering to attend. All contributions will be donated to the British Red Cross. You will be helping those in need of basic shelter, sanitation, clean water and sustenance. Any donations will be appreciated and there will also be the opportunity to donate at the event.
