Up Up presents a selection of modernist towers located in the inner city of Johannesburg. Over the years these buildings have witnessed profound social and political shifts within the metropolis. The book documents the subjects in two distinct sections: formally, through floor plans, archival material and contemporary images of the interior and the exterior, and then more ephemerally, through reportage and essays on the inner workings of the buildings. Interviews with residents, and contributions from invited writers, artists and photographers, provide insights into the old and new lives of these highrises.
