Join us for the book launch of Upper Lawn, Solar Pavilion
This publication explores the rich story of the weekend home Alison and Peter Smithson built for their family in Wiltshire: a ‘simple climate house’ where life could be lived in consonance with the fluctuating weather and seasons. It brings together Alison’s diaries from 1962 to 1982 with Peter’s photographs, as well as additional texts and drawings, picturing the house as a ledger of passing time, a means of technical experimentation, and a lens onto the world inside and outside its walls. This generous new publication is based on the book Alison created with Enric Miralles in 1986, and includes an introduction by Paul Clarke many unseen materials from the Smithson archive.
We are delighted to welcome Paul Clarke, Professor of Architectural Design at the Belfast School of Architecture and the Built Environment; Niall Hobhouse, founder of the Drawing Matter Trust; and interdisciplinary geographer Sam Johnson-Schlee to the AA Bookshop for a conversation with AA Director Ingrid Schroder to celebrate the launch of this new publication over refreshments.
The book will be sold at the special price of £32 (RRP £40)
