Wikipedia is the ~7th most visited website in the world. 91% of its global content is written by men, many from Europe and North America.
Tired of the internet reflecting the same bias as society? Don’t want AI to continue this trend?
Help to change this during a Wikipedia edit-a-thon in the AA Library! Everyone is welcome to edit entries individually or collaboratively and no Wikipedia editing experience is necessary.
The afternoon will start with an introduction to editing Wikipedia by two experts from the Wikipedia UK Chapter. The event will focus on editing and adding Wikipedia entries relating to the Portraits of Practice event series that accompanies the exhibition on show in the AA Gallery titled Portraits of a Practice: The Life and Work of MJ Long. The series takes the themes and topics explored within the exhibition as its starting point to discuss the gendering of spaces and objects within architecture and its related disciplines.
A list of architects and practitioners whose entries could be edited or created will be shared with attendees in advance of the event. If you have an entry that you know you would like to edit or create, please email it to publicprogramme@aaschool.ac.uk so that we can prepare reference materials for you on the day.
The edit-a-thon is organised with assistance from the Wikimedia Community User Group in the United Kingdom.
Please get in touch to let us know of any access requirements that you might have and how we can best accommodate these. If you are unable to attend physically but would like to participate in the event remotely please email publicprogramme@aaschool.ac.uk.
