Joana is an architect and urbanist from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, with a Master’s degree in environment and energy from the AA and a PhD from the University of Sao Paulo. As a graduate architect, she worked for Oscar Niemeyer and was an associate professor at FAUUSP between 1998–2019. For over 25 years, she has dedicated her career to Environmental Design in teaching, research and practice. At the AA, she currently teaches Environmental and Technical Studies and worked in the Sustainable Environmental Design MSc and March Programme between 2009–13, and 2021 and 2024. She is an associate professor at the Bartlett School of Architecture (UCL) and associate lecturer at Central Saint Martins. She is a researcher and author of several technical publications. Joana also works as an environmental design consultant with recent projects in Latin American cities.
