AA alum and tutor Thomas Faulkner has been selected to participate in the London Festival of Architecture (LFA) with the exhibition Voices of Abuse. The exhibition is a participatory event that tells the story of survivors of domestic abuse and the unheard role that architecture plays in this process. This work is based on Faulkner’s research which was initially developed when he was a student at the AA and has since been furthered under the practice With Voices.
The exhibition is preceded with a podcast in conversation with abuse survivor and writer Louise Alexandra-Erskine. The podcast discusses themes around tools of abuse, escaping the abuser and the impact of housing on everyday life in post-abuse recovery. Find the podcast here.
Giving authorship to the voices of the exhibition, a free ticketed opening night of Voices of Abuse will be held at SuperSatellite on Friday 20 June. This event will consider domestic abuse through architectural investigation. As part of the LFA, join the conversation with survivors, see pioneering research on the role of architecture in abuse and collaborate with other voices. The exhibition will run over three days from Friday 20 – Sunday 22 June, with voices on the spatiality of domestic abuse conveyed through images, poetry, audio recordings and more.
