AA alum Michael Ho was interviewed by Observer this month following a busy year in 2023 of solo shows in Paris and Shanghai, as well as group shows in Hong Kong, Tokyo and Los Angeles. In the interview, Michael speaks about their approach to painting and explains that ‘it’s a way to think through things that often lead to other projects.’ Michael considers this work to be a collaborative process, having originally started experimenting through painting with his best friend and fellow graduate Chiyan Ho. Both had a unique and shared process to painting, and the work has become known for ‘depicting striking imagery in haunting grey and purple shades that reflect a sense of liminal space and surrealness.’ Michael plans to make time for research and development for new projects in 2024 and notes in the interview that ‘architecture seeks for a solution, whereas art allows me to pose a question.’ The conversation between Michael and Elaine Zhao can be read here.
