Tosin Oshinowo of Oshinowo Studio, an architectural, urban and interior design practice based in Lagos, Nigeria, has been awarded Top Architect for Community by the 2024 Monocle Design Awards. This recognises Tosin for being a leading voice on architecture and design, as well as her work as cocurator of the Lagos Biennial. Among other events, Tosin has most recently curated the Sharjah Architecture Triennial and is headlining the 2024 Melbourne Design Week; an annual 11-day program of talks, tours, exhibitions, launches, installations and workshops across Australia’s design capital.
Tosin’s practice works towards human-centred design to meet cultural and climatic needs. In Lagos, they experience the full complexities of a rapidly changing urban continent and as written on their website, ‘the city affords us a unique insight into the metropolis of the future.’ Oshinowo Studio began in 2013 by Tosin, following her studies at the AA. Tosin worked in Europe before returning to Lagos to set up her practice.
