AA alumna Madeleine Kessler has been named by the Architects' Journal in its '40 under 40' awards, which take place every 15 years and seek to highlight exceptional architectural talent in every generation of up and coming architects.
'Having trained as both an engineer and architect, Kessler is a rare example of a practitioner working at the interface between people, infrastructure and public space, with project experience ranging from museums, exhibitions and pavilions to large-scale campuses and airports.'
Kessler was praised for her work with Unscene Architecture, the practice she co-founded with AA tutor and Head of Public Programme Manijeh Verghese. The pair are curating the British Pavilion at the 17th Venice Architecture Biennale, 'The Garden of Privatised Delights'.
Kessler is also taking part in an event at 2pm GMT on Thursday 17 December titled 'A Focus on Contemporary Architecture as a Symbol for Optimism', where she will discuss the Heydar Aliyev Cultural Center in Baku, a defining work in the legacy of AA alumna Zaha Hadid.
