AA alumna Sammy Lee has been commissioned by Tate St Ives for a project titled AVIARY as part of the Winter Light commissions 2021. The work is a site-specific projection creating a virtual trompe l'oeil in the gallery's entrance, and a 24/7 360-degree live-stream which can be accessed via the Tate website.

Lee explains her inspiration for the project: ‘AVIARY emerged out of the first national lockdown of 2020, a time of heightened awareness of both intimate space and the interconnectedness of global technological systems.

‘AVIARY seeks to bridge this feeling between the physical and virtual, the local and global, by drawing upon the recurring symbolism of birds as travellers between worlds and prophetic messengers across time.’
