AA alumnus Philip Esocoff has taken part in a debate organised by the American Institute of Architects titled 'Towards a New Architectural Ornament' as part of their Provocations series. In the debate, Philip discussed the history of ornament within architecture, and how his own practice has attempted to reincorporate traditional ornamental skills of stone-carving and the philosophical and sociological importance of ornamental architecture. He discussed projects that he has worked on, including the Reading Room at Virginia Tech, where traditional forms of architectural ornament were updated for modern subjects.
