AA alumnus Tokolo Asao has launched a new exhibition titled [Connect] Individual and Group at Japan House London, which presents a selection of works produced by the artist and designer over the past two decades. Asao, who designed the Harmonised Chequered Emblem for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, has created a series of installations in the windows and on each floor of Japan House London using 2D and 3D media including woodwork, ceramics, lacquer, cut glass and canvas prints, often incorporating the use of Japanese indigo (ai). The works on display explore the concept of connection, which has been central to Asao’s work since 2001, and many have been created in collaboration with Japanese craftspeople.
[Connect] Individual and Group is open until 7 November 2021 and admission is free. Find out more about the exhibition on the Japan House London website, and read more about Tokolo Asao’s work on the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games emblems in his contribution to AA Conversations here.
