The Field Station at Hooke Park has received a 2023 Wood Award for Research and Innovation. Using crown timber, which is often dismissed as forest waste, the 100m2 multi-purpose pavilion marries technical innovation with a respect for nature, demonstrating the potential of modern architecture to positively contribute to woodland management.
The AA’s Design and Make postgraduate programme worked with ARUP to develop a structural strategy using beech, ash and Norway spruce, the first of which grows in abundance in the 142-hectare woodland of Hooke Park. The pavilion serves as an open-air laboratory and learning space for the AA community and public. More information on the award and other 2023 winners can be found here.
