Architect and AA DIP8 tutor Nuria Alvarez Lombardero originally promoted and organised the first International Congress on Architecture and Gender (ICAG) that took place in Seville in 2014. Since then, other editions have been organised in Lisbon in 2015, Florence in 2017, Brighton in 2019 and Lisbon – which was held online due to the pandemic – in 2021. Each congress has brought together a large number of researchers from several continents to discuss the questions posed by the organisers of these congresses, all of them with the common denominator of making the work of women architects visible.
Nuria Alvarez Lombardero was the main speaker at the sixth International Conference on Gender and Architecture (ICAG) that took place on the 3–6 October 2023. The focus this year was on the 1973-2003 International Archives of Women in Architecture that took place in the University of Valencia, Spain. Lombardero presented her work on the struggles of female architects in architecture, the new forms of practices emerging from them, and the importance of sorority attitudes through networks of support.
