Minimaforms' pioneering AI emotive artwork Petting Zoo opens to the public as part of NOVA – Bienal Rio de Arte e Tecnologia at the Museu do Amanhã (Museum of Tomorrow). The Petting Zoo was first exhibited ten years ago at the FRAC Centre ArchiLab exhibition and has previously featured in the Barbican exhibition, Digital Revolution. The first edition of the biennial explores augmented reality, virtual reality, works involving artificial intelligence, interactive installations, machine learning, animations, game art and videos. Other exhibiting artists include Theo Jansen, Numen / For Use, Memo Akten, Lu Yang, Sam Rolfes among others.
Petting Zoo is a speculative robotic environment populated by artificially intelligent creatures that have been designed with the capacity to learn and explore behaviours by interacting with participants. The interactive pets foster human curiosity and play. They forge intimate exchanges that are emotive and evolve over time; enabling communication between people and their environment.
