AA Alumni (2021–22) of History and Critical Thinking in Architecture, Juan Campanini and Josefina Sposito, have been selected as finalists of the Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize for Emerging Practice 2024 (MCHAP.emerge Cycle 5), a biennial prize that acknowledges the best built works of architecture in the Americas. MCHAP was conceived by Illinois Institute of Technology College of Architecture in 2013.
The housing project on Virrey Avilés Street is located in the residential neighbourhood of Colegiales in the City of Buenos Aires. It is situated in an irregular triangular block and is surrounded by low houses. Behind a plain metal façade that does not reveal any interior organisation, the building hosts six housing units across three stories. At the back, between two gardens, the staircase stands, organising two units per floor through its elevated landings. Each apartment spreads from the back to the front city facade, facing the urban landscape through two large windows.
