Join AA Material Arcade (AAMA) at the Design Museum this weekend, on Sunday 22 September from 11am–4pm, to play with shapes and textures to collectively create a sculpture as part of the London Design Festival.
Questioning existing (linear) systems is at the core of AAMA’s work. The student-led initiative looks at material flows at the scale of a school and how subtle shifts in these systems can connect ‘waste’ with use, value and inspiration. This summer, the Embassy of Switzerland in the UK and the Design Museum challenged AAMA (Fergus Egan, Abhishek Wagle and Charlotte Wesselmann) and Swiss architect Sébastien Tripod, to create a game with reclaimed materials to inspire community and creativity.
REPLAY is an interactive game using materials sourced from the scraps of London's workshops; it demonstrates how playfulness invites creativity. The project is reflective of AAMA's practice, but rather than purely facilitating reuse, this time, they were their own customers, producing elements from materials they salvaged.
