AA tutor and alum Marko Milovanovic will premiere his debut feature-length film Temptation of Influence at the Royal Academy of Arts in London on Wednesday 18 June. The screening marks the culmination of a year-long research and film-making project supported by the Royal Academy of Arts, Architecture at the Edge, the British Council, the Arts Council of Ireland and the AA School.
The event is invite-only, but a limited number of spaces may be made available. If you are interested in attending the screening, please email info@mylomark.com – any remaining places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
Temptation of Influence (44 min) is a filmic collage and essay exploring how architectural ideas are passed down, reinterpreted and – inevitably – misread across generations. Centred on the work of Irish architect Shane de Blacam (de Blacam and Meagher Architects), the film is the outcome of a fellowship awarded to Milovanovic in 2024 by the Royal Academy of Arts and Architecture at the Edge.
The microcosm of Shane’s study in Dublin, where the walls are lined with plates from Palladio’s Four Books of Architecture, framing a few drawings by his friend and teacher Louis Kahn, becomes the film’s point of departure and a guidebook of sorts. From there, the journey unfolds across landscapes, buildings and voices, reframing how influence moves through memory, encounter and place. The project took Milovanovic on a journey across Ireland, to the Veneto region in Italy, and along the East Coast of the United States.
Conversations that informed the project included those with Shane de Blacam, Peter Carroll, Kenneth Frampton, Mary Laheen, Níall McLaughlin, Sheila O’Donnell, William Whitaker and many others.
