The Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA) has selected the feature documentary Shelter WIthout Shelter, created by AA tutor Mark E Breeze with Tom Scott-Smith, to be screened in Montreal as part of their Ciné Façade series, which focuses on films exploring ‘how people live today, how they organise themselves and construct their environments, from communes and building replicas, to co-housing, refugee shelters and retirement homes.‘
Shelter WIthout Shelter follows the dilemmas of housing refugees from Syria across Europe and the Middle East, from requisitioned buildings and new reception centres to mega-camps, squats and occupied airports. The feature was co-created by Breeze and Tom Scott-Smith and was filmed over three years from 2015. Breeze is an architect and academic interested in the theories and practices of human shelter; he teaches Dreaming Domesticity, Sheltering Speculations (EXP17) with Katie (Kyriaki) Kasabalis at the AA.
The screening of Shelter Without Shelter will take place on Thursday 19 August at 8.30pm in Baile Park, Montreal, and is free and open to the public. Register to attend here.
