AA History and Theory Studies Tutor Richard Aina has been invited to present his furniture prototypes from the seven-chair Akoko collection at the Crypt Gallery near King’s Cross in London. The exhibition will be part of the International Body of Art exhibition series entitled In Search of Some Phantom and is the first event of 2024. The exhibition acts as the first chapter in a three-part instalment that will continue throughout the year, with each exhibition adding to an exploration of temporality and its ties to the condition of being within our present world.
Richard’s furniture pieces are designed and handcrafted through an afro-revivalist style, under the developing practice called I-JŌKŌ (EYE-JOH-KOH). Four of the pieces will be on view in the Crypt Gallery from 11am–5pm GMT, Saturday 23 – Wednesday 27 March. The opening is from 6.30–9pm GMT on Friday 22 March. Tickets for both the opening and general admission can be purchased here.
