It is with great sadness that the AA has learned that Cherrill Scheer, founder of Cherrill Scheer & Associates (CSA), has died. Cherrill studied architecture at the AA, as well as the Kingston School of Art. She then joined the family company, Hille International before becoming Group Marketing Director of Hille Ergonom from 1983–89 and then Scott Howard from 1989–91.
Cherrill held fellowships for the Chartered Society of Designers, the Royal Society of Arts, and an Honorary Fellowship of the Arts from Bournemouth University and received a Mixology Lifetime Achievement Award. Cherrill was a past chair of the Design & Industries Association, a Governor of London Metropolitan University, and was a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers. With the livery, she set up the ‘Design Guild Mark’ awards for designers of furniture in volume production.
Cherrill was passionate about design education; a patron of the Tate, Whitechapel Gallery and the Design Museum.
