Francis Kéré, whose work with Iwan Baan is currently the subject of an exhibition at the AA as part of our AA in Habitation residency, has been awarded architecture's highest honour, the Pritzker Architecture Prize, making him the first Black male laureate in the competition's history.
Kéré is best known for his work in marginalised countries where architecture and infrastructure are absent. Kéré’s projects range from schools and health facilities to professional housing, and has contributed significantly to his hometown of Gando, Burkina Faso.
As part of the AA’s residency at Heal’s, Kéré has teamed up with Dutch photographer Iwan Baan to present Momentum of Light. The exhibition presents a series of photographs that explore the interplay between natural sunlight, vernacular architecture and everyday life in the West African nation of Burkina Faso.
