
Delhi Polytechnic was founded in 1941, offering programmes in Architecture, Arts, Engineering, Applied Science, Textiles, and Commerce. Walter William Wood was the first Principal and from 1952 the Polytechnic was affiliated with the Faculty of Technology, at the University of Delhi, launching formal degree-level programmes, the department of Architecture becoming the School of Planning and Architecture,. The 1960s saw further changes, with the Polytechnic being renamed the Delhi College of Engineering, in 1965. It took its present name of Delhi Technological University in 2009.
