
Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) was founded in 1962, incorporating a number of other institutions in Northern Nigeria, including the Nigerian College of Arts, Science and Technology, at Samaru, the Ahmadu Bello College, in Kano, and the Institute of Administration at Zaria. A Department of Architecture was first established in 1952, as part of the Nigerian College of Arts, Science and Technology, and was continued under the ABU administration from 1962, and is now housed within the Faculty of Environmental Design.
