The course developed into a Department in 1913 and the a College in 1930, changing its name to the College of Architecture and Design in 1939. A doctoral school followed, in 1968 and six years later the College was separated into the College of Architecture and Urban Planning and the School of Art and Design, both moving to a new home on the North Campus. The name, Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning was formally bestowed in 1999, following a major donation from the businessman, Alfred Taubman.
