The University of Hawaii at Manoa can trace its origins back to the 1907 establishment of the College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts of the Territory of Hawaiʻi. The College was granted university status and renamed the University of Hawaiʻi in 1919. In the post-war period, the university expanded rapidly and a major re-structuring took place in 1965, with the state legislature consolidating existing technical and community colleges under the umbrella of the University of Hawaii. In 1972 a final re-naming took place, the original university taking the name of the 'University of Hawai'i at Manoa,' distinguishing it from the other campuses within the University of Hawai'i system. The School of Architecture at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa was officially established in 1980.
