The origins of architectural education at the Southend Technical College, in Essex, go back to 1922 when a School of Architecture was added to what became the Southend Technical and Commercial School, renamed the Southend Municipal College in 1935. In 1966, three years after having been renamed the Southend College of Technology, the School of Architecture was closed. Following subsequent mergers, the institution was once more renamed the South Essex College in 2010.
