AA tutors John Palmesino and Ann-Sofi Rönnskog – unit masters of Diploma 4, founders of Territorial Agency and winners of the STARTS PRIZE 2021 – have collaborated with Patti Smith, Jesse Paris Smith and Soundwalk Collective for a multimedia performance feature this weekend at the opening of United Nations Climate Change Conference 2021 (COP26) in Glasgow.
CRY OF THE LOST is a sound piece inspired by Francesca Thyssen-Bornemisza’s lecture performance Sounds Too Many and is comprised of underwater sounds recorded by Jana Winderen. The soundtrack is derived from the TBA21–Academy ocean sound archive documenting the destructive impact of man-made sounds in the world ocean.
The live performance will be accompanied by visuals from Territorial Agency to provide visceral insights into the magnitude of the life-threatening sound pollution of the ocean. The project details the spatial and ecological dimensions of the impact of air-gun blasting for oil prospecting, shipping noise and drilling, on the fragile life forms of the ocean.
Those who are in Glasgow are invited to join at the Theatre Royal – the event will also be live-streamed, so that anyone can watch from around the world. Tickets are now on sale here.
