Rod is a registered architect and was a director at Caruso St John Architects from 2005–25 before taking up his role at the AA as the cohead of the Conversation and Reuse programme, and starting his own practice. Rod directed Caruso St John’s work at Tate Britain, Hospitalfield Arts, Stockholm City Library, St Pancras Campus, Darwin College, Cambridge and Magdalen College, Oxford. He has taught architecture at Kingston University (2007–12), London Metropolitan University (2012–16) and was a Design Fellow at the University of Cambridge (2016–23). Rod was Visiting Professor of Architecture at TU Wien and an external assessor at the University of Cambridge. Alongside his practice and teaching, Rod completed an MSc in the Conservation of Historic Buildings from the University of York.
