William trained as a sculptor at the University of Hertfordshire, the University of Leeds and UCL, completing an MFA in Sculpture at the Slade School of Fine Art in 2005. After leaving college he was a sculptor’s assistant to Sir Anthony Caro (2005–08). Since then, he has worked at the AA where, as Head of Workshops, he has been involved in managing the department and teaches model making. His interests are in ‘thinking through making’ and he promotes experimental, multifarious hands-on analogue model making processes. These processes offer direct feedback, which can lead to unforeseeable outcomes and new learning opportunities. William has also continued his fine art practice making sculpture, painting and drawing, and has been involved in several exhibitions and commissions.
