The University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore (UET Lahore) was founded in 1921 as Mughalpura Technical College, swiftly being re-named, a couple of years later, as MacLagan Engineering College, after Sir Edward Maclagan, the Governor of Punjab. A further name change took place in 1939, when it became known as the Punjab College of Engineer and Technology. After Partition, a section of the College moved to India and was reconstituted as the East Punjab College of Engineering. The Punjab College gained university status and degree awarding powers of its own in 1962 when it was officially granted as charter and named the West Pakistan University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore. It was during this period that bachelor's degree programs in Architecture were started. A final name change came in 1972 when it formally adopted its current name.
