Mohamed Nural Islam is recorded as an East Pakistani (now Bangladesh) enrolled on the 1969-70 postgraduate programme run by the Architectural Association's Department of Development and Tropical Studies, in London. Prior to attending the AA he is known to have studied at the University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore. Following graduation from the AA Mohamed remained in the UK, teaching at the Development Planning Unit, University College, where the AA's  Department of Development and Tropical Studies had transferred to in 1971. After several years, Mohamed moved to Pakistan, where he set up his own practice, and held a teaching role in Karachi.
