
Bhalchandra Gujar attended the Academy of Architecture, now Rachana Sansad Academy of Architecture, Mumbai, from 1957-1964, earning a Government Diploma in Architecture. In the year following his graduation, Bhalchandra enrolled on the postgraduate ‘General Course’ run by the Architectural Association’s Department of Tropical Studies, in London. He remained in London, studying at the Northern Polytechnic from 1966-69 and gaining a Diploma in Town and Country Planning. By 1978 he had settled in New York, working with the practice of Swanke, Hayden and Connell Architects. He rapidly established an expertise in the field of technical co-ordination, quality assurance and the resolution of structural and compliance issues. This specialism led to further posts with some of the largest US practices, including Mancini Duffy (1987-1998), Skidmore, Owings and Merill (1998-2001), DMJMA Harris Aecom (2002-2006), co-ordinating major infrastructure projects, including work on the C3 Terminal expansion at New Jersey Liberty International Airport and the expansion of Terminal 8 at JFK Airport. More recently he has been in technical co-ordination roles with STV Incorporated and FXCollaborative, based in New York.
