Ahmed Mohamed el Amin El Shaigi is recorded as a Sudanese student enrolled on the 1967-68 postgraduate ‘General Design’ course run by the Architectural Association’s (AA) Department of Development and Tropical Studies, in London. He successfully completed his studies and was formally awarded the AA Diploma in Tropical Studies in July 1968. An ‘A. El Shaigi’, from Sudan, is also recorded as enrolling on the ‘Educational Building’ course, within the Department, from 1968-1969. It is assumed that these are one and the same person. Ahmed appears to have returned to Sudan and by 1972 was employed within the Architectural Section of the Ministry of Works, in Khartoum. He was to later join the army, working as an architect, and reached the rank of Colonel within the military engineering division.
