Saifuddin Mahmood is recorded as an Indian student enrolled on the 1964-65 postgraduate course run by the Architectural Association’s Department of Tropical Studies, in London. Almost immediately after completing his AA studies, he travelled to Libya, taking up a role at the Ministry of Planning and Development in Tripoli by 1966. Four years later he is described as an Architect-Engineer with the Ministry of Municipal Affairs, still based in Tripoli but by 1970 his name appears in the American Institute of Architects’ Directory of American Architects, as registered in Alexandria, Virginia.
