
Geoffrey Haywood Taunton was born in the UK in 1946 and educated at Colston’s School, Bristol, from 1957-1965. He then entered the five year Diploma course at the Architectural Association, London. During his time as a student, he gained experience working for Archigram and in 1968 for the artist and architect Thurloe Conolly, in Duravel, France, in 1969, alongside employment as an indexing assistant within the Ministry of Public Building and Works, at Lambeth Bridge House, London. As part of his final Diploma year (1970-71), Taunton elected to study within the AA’s Department of Development and Tropical Studies, where his tutor was Mario Novella. After graduating with both an AA Diploma and a Certificate in Development and Tropical Studies, Taunton joined the Property Services Agency (PSA) in the Directorate General of Design Services, Department of the Environment, Whitgift Centre in Croydon. Details of his subsequent career are not yet known to us beyond the fact that he remained with the PSA until at least the late 1980s.
