An article co-authored by Wojciech Mazan, who recently completed the Projective Cities MPhil, has been featured in the forthcoming issue of CANactions Magazine entitled Land. The essay builds on the work undertaken by Mazan in his dissertation at Projective Cities and his curatorial work on the Polish Pavilion at the Biennale Architettura 2021. The text investigates the remains of the State Agricultural Farms and workers’ settlements (their integral part) within the contemporary Polish countryside through two periods. First, historical (1946-1993), where the provenance, rise, and fall of the socialist model are analysed. Second, contemporary (from 1993 onwards), focuses on the current spatial and social condition of the former workers’ settlements. In effect the essay attempts to problematize the residuary structures of settlements as an independent morphogenetic type of rural settlement.
