Work and comments by Third Year AA students within the ETS3 Sustainable Structural Design course have been published in a full-page feature in The Times newspaper, together with contributions from Environmental and Technical Studies tutor Cíaran Malik and AA Council member Trevor Morriss. The article by Georgia Lambert, titled Grand green designs: what the architects of tomorrow need to know, highlights the ways in which the AA’s ETS programme has anticipated urgent environmental concerns within the educational approach of its courses, and how the AA encourages technical and material innovation. Students Alia Tavenner and Flora (Xiang Yi) Chen are quoted in the piece, which is accompanied by a photograph of Amalia Pantazopoulou alongside her work.
The article notes a recent consultation report by the Architectural Registration Board, which proposes changes to the educational route into the profession in the UK with the aim of increasing flexibility, innovation and diversity among the architects of the future. Lambert also highlights the use of artificial intelligence to drive sustainability in the Southworks development in Southwark, London for which AA Council member Trevor Morriss was principal architect. Morriss closes the piece with the following comment: “It can’t be overstated how important the decisions made by architects will be on the road to net zero.”
