A current student in the MA Spatial Performance and Design (AAIS) Programme, Hui Fan has received two international design awards. Fan won the Gold Prize in the Product Design – Furniture category at the 2025 London Design Awards and the Silver Prize in the Furniture Sets – Dining Set category at the 2025 New York Product Design Awards.
Fan’s work highlights a cross-cultural approach to design and a strong commitment to material storytelling. Her modular handcrafted furniture piece, 37, which won the Gold Prize, is composed of 37 solid birch segments. The piece explores emotional warmth and structural honesty, embodying Fan’s belief that ‘truth matters more than beauty’. Fan’s second piece which received the Silver Prize is inspired by traditional Chinese lacquer aesthetics and ceramic craft, the work reinterprets Eastern cultural heritage through a sustainable and contemporary lens.
These recognitions affirm Fan’s ongoing exploration of spatial narrative, material consciousness and cultural hybridity; values shared by AAIS and its commitment to nurturing globally engaged and critically reflective practitioners.
