‘Horatio’s Garden’, which features a garden building designed by alumnus Andrew McMullan (AADipl 2006) of McMullan Studio, has been awarded Best in Show at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2023. The garden was designed by Harris Bugg Studio for the Horatio’s Garden charity, and focuses on accessibility through the innovative use of materials, surfaces, structures and planting. The garden building designed by McMullan features sustainable materials and details that allow visitors with a range of access requirements to enjoy the experience of immersing themselves in the beautiful garden surroundings. Following its exhibition at Chelsea, the garden will go in to form the centre of a new permanent garden at the Princess Royal Spinal Cord Injuries Centre in Sheffield.
On 13 June, AA Head of Public Programme Manijeh Verghese will chair a panel discussion on accessible design with Harris Bugg Studio and other guests as part of the London Festival of Architecture. Register to attend.
