Hatmadi Pinandojo is recorded as an Indonesian student enrolled at the Architectural Association, London, studying on the Department of Tropical Architecture’s post-graduate course in 1959-60. He appears to have returned to his home in Jakarta very soon after graduating, taking part in the founding of the Ikatan Arsitek Indonesia (IAI) and being selected in 1960 as one of a six-man party tasked with visiting the Merdeka Palace and obtaining the patronage of Sukarno, the first President of Indonesia. In the early 1970s Pinandojo was appointed Head Architect, in charge of the co-ordination of the regional enclaves and pavilions in the Taman Mini Indonesia Indah - a national theme park project instigated by Siti Hartinah, the wife of President Suharto, with the intention of representing the diverse cultures of Indonesia in miniature. Alongside such architectural projects, Pinandojo was also engaged in academia and by 1986 was serving as the Dean to the Faculty of Landscape Architecture at, Trisakti University, Jakarta.
