Bejan Ardeshir Bharucha is recorded as having studied for 5 years at an architecture school in Bombay (now Mumbai), presumably the Sir J.J. School of Architecture, before coming to the UK in the summer of 1955, travelling on P&O’s ‘Himalaya’ from Bombay to Tilbury docks. He subsequently enrolled in the six-month post-graduate course at the Architectural Association’s Department of Tropical Architecture in September of that year. Following the completion of his course, Bharucha appears to have worked in the State Engineer’s Office in Doha, Qatar. By the early 1960s, however, Bharucha had returned to the UK and in 1968 was working as Senior Architect to J.E. Lesser (Construction) Ltd., based in Hounslow, London, a major UK design and build company.
