Murleedhar Shirgaonkar is recorded a student enrolled on the post-graduate course run by the Architectural Association (AA) Department of Tropical Architecture in 1959-60. The AA student register states that Shirgaonkar was attending ‘lectures only’ indicating he was not eligible to receive the Tropical Certificate at the completion of the course. Before the AA, Shirgaonkar had received a G.D. Arch qualification in India, by 1956, and had been working with the Calcutta practice of Ballardie, Thompson and Mathews. After completing his time with the Department of Tropical Architecture, Shirgaonka remained in London and was working for the Architects’ Department at George Wimpey & Co Ltd by 1961. Details of his subsequent career are not clear but he appears to have stayed in London until at least the mid-1960s, living in the Fulham Road area.
